Penultimate Check-In: Jax

I find it hard to believe that this is my penultimate Twin Noakes check-in.  It seems like forever and yet no time at all that I’ve been on this journey. ‘The end of May’ seemed so far away when I swapped onto the LCHF eating plan in Feb and now it has become a way of life.

I have another few days left though so I’ll keep this a pretty straight forward check-in and leave my analysis and conclusions for next week.

So, another birthday party has come and gone this last week.  My nephew, Nicky, turned 9 and celebrated with an Angry Birds party.  I’ll admit to sneaking in a sliver of my mother-in-law’s cheese cake on the occasion and sampling a slice of the chocolate birthday cake; but more than that I haven’t done…

… on the food front …

I still consume the occasional G&T and glass of champagne.  The latter is completely the fault of my best friend Karin who plies me with bubbly almost every time I see her

I went to The Good Food & Wine Show on Sunday to support one of Pete’s guys in the regional barista champs and to sample some yummy food.  This was Roderick’s first competition and he got through to the nationals – so proud of him!  I also came across the Fat Butcher and bought a bag of biltong for my breakfast and then proceeded to by meats and cheese from some other stands which have graced my lunch plates in various forms for the last few days.

Body Tec is still a wonderful weekly workout and I recommend it to anyone who wants to tone up but doesn’t have hours to spend in the gym.  I’ve also done one or two gym sessions and I’ve stabilised my results from last month’s falter and hopefully will see an improvement again as I go forward.

A new addition to my exercise this past week was a Classical Mat Pilates Workout with the fantastic Astrid Haupt.  Astrid owns and started Bodyworks Studios and was kind enough to give Karin and I an hour of her time for one of her toughest workouts.  She didn’t hold back and I’m glad for it. I felt great, if not a bit tender afterwards!  I also have a new respect for pilates people – it’s not easy.  Thanks again Astrid.

Finally, this morning was spent consuming a delicious spread of LCHF foods at a Sally-Ann Creed talk in Constantia.  For those of you who don’t know Sally-Ann, go check out her website by clicking on this link: http://www.sallyanncreed.co.za/.  She has been doing LCHF eating for many years and is an avid supporter of Prof Noakes.  As a professional nutritionalist she comes with a ton of authority.  Her words carry even more weight because she’s living proof of the success of LCHF eating and speaks from many years of experience.  It was a lovely morning and I’ll definitely be popping onto her site in the future to see what’s new in the LCHF world.

The rest of my week is going to fly by.  I’m going to have my final blood tests taken in a little while and then Jeanne and I are going to celebrate the end of Twin Noakes with a lavish lunch out somewhere. It’ll be a nostalgic affair as we reminisce over the past 10 months and the incredible journey we’ve been on.

It’ll be with a twinge of sadness that I write my final check-in next week, but I look forward to analysing my measurements and tying it all up.  I’ll also be posting the ‘after’ pics of me in my bikini to see what I’ve achieved on a relaxed LCHF eating plan.

Until then,
Jax
