Check-In: Week 7

Jax: High Carbs

Food

What a week it’s been! As the negative effects of eating carbs has sharply increased so the enjoyment of eating them has decreased. In the beginning I really enjoyed the ease of access and the fun that carbs can be, but in this last week my physical discomfort and difficulty at finding myself carb intolerant has frankly taken the fun out of it!

Feeling

A part of me just wants to write “fine” and move on because the other part of me wants to write a whole lot more with a bunch of expletives thrown in between! Let me just list where I’m at physically: Constantly bloated, Annoyingly allergenic, Increasingly heavier, Unpleasantly bigger, Anemic (I had been anemic several months before and the lack of meat and iron unfortunately has had a negative affect on that front too).

Then on an emotional level I’m irritable, frustrated, tired and sometimes desperate just to stop eating carbs.   I’m so glad I’ve done this project, but I must admit it’s come at quite a cost.

Diagnosis

Our weekly test results are no surprise and our blood tests are ticking along.  I’m looking forward to doing the FINAL tests this week especially the Dexa Scan which takes an x-ray of our bodies and shows our fat deposits and bone mass.

Diary

This 8th and final week is going to be a lot of fun and very interesting.

On the Twin Noakes front we’ll being doing the final tests which will cover everything: Weight, Fat%, Body Measurements, Blood, RMR, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol Particle Size and Dexa Scan.

Then on the publicity side of things we’ll be shooting for the Dr Mol Show (a local TV show) on Mon this week and next week too.  Will let you know when it’s going to be aired. It’s going to be such a busy week that I’ll probably push other interviews and things out to next week.

I’ll liaise with our chosen publication about the main Twin Noakes article, as well as start planning the post Twin Noakes project which is also going to be fun and just as interesting.  Watch this space!

Jeanne: High fat/protein

Food

I was chatting to a friend of mine this last week about the project and how effortless it’s been for me.  I have found that I really am naturally drawn to this way of eating so not only has it been fun, but it’s been pretty easy too!

Feeling

What can I say? I’m feeling great! My allergies are almost non-existent, I am never bloated any more, my energy and appetite are pretty much sustained all day and I feel strong :)

Diagnosis

My weight and fat% seem to have stabilised so there was hardly any change this week.  As Jax mentioned, the coming week we will be doing detailed tests and I am very interested to see what the final results will be!

Diary

Well, Jax has us busy with tests and interviews so my week is pretty much booked up!  I shot the last day on the South African film so that’s wrapped up for now and I’m looking forward to the Cape Town “commercial Season” heating up in the coming weeks. It is also my 10th wedding anniversary on Friday which, as it happens, marks the end of the official part of my low carb diet and so I certainly look forward to a glass of Champagne on the night!
